Colleen Kenney Fleischer

Lincoln, Nebraska
Colleen Kenney loves little stories that say big things.
As a news and sports feature writer at the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald, she won many national awards for those little stories. One of them, about a little girl’s birthday party at the People’s City Mission, was featured in the college journalism textbook “Inside Reporting.”
Kenney was a featured speaker at a National Writers Workshop as well as conferences sponsored by the American Press Institute. Her work has been selected for websites devoted to fine feature writing, and one was picked as a “notable” in The Best American Sports Writing of 2010 – “The Man Who Stole From Tom Osborne.”
About eight years ago, an editor put a video camera in her hands, and her video passion began. She started to see herself not as a writer, but as a storyteller. She studied documentary and film as a Knight-Wallace Fellow at Michigan in 2007-’08. She now is Director of Publications for the University of Nebraska Foundation, where she does as many videos of cool donors, professors and scholarship recipients as she can.
